Resignations on All Sides
On day one of the campaign, Conservative Welsh Secretary Alun Cairns MP resigned from the Cabinet as a probe was launched into claims he knew a Conservative candidate had sabotaged a trial. Emails showed Mr Cairns had been aware of the situation months. Read more here.
The next day, the Labour Party had to handle their own resignations as Deputy Leader Tom Watson MP announced his intention to stand down as a Member of Parliament and Deputy Leader of the Labour Party. This brings the number of MPs who have retired or resigned to 73, which is actually lower than the 2015 figure (90). Read more here.
